Will BMW hit it on the nail with their first BMW branded,

fully electric car?

For quite a while now the Bavarian company has been keenly focused on environmental impact reduction. Even their current lineup is considered to be a lot less polluting than most. BMW offers 49 models with EU5/6 emissions norm and nearly 20 models with CO2 output less than 140 g/km. Hybrid power, hydrogen engines and electric power research is a logical step for their R&D. BMW's foray into the electric car development started with the Mini E. They put on field trials in the U.K. and the U.S. Only six months into the trials they announced the BMW ActiveE. Dispite it's lact of high performance looks, this all electric 1 Series concept car delivers an acceleration from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in less than 9 seconds and a maximum speed of around 145 km/h.

ActiveE will be on display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2010. The catch is that ActiveE will be leased to customers on a trial basis and won't be on the road until 2011.

Can we wait that long to go electric?
